Terrier Jrt
Can two short haired Jack Russell Terrier parents produce a long haired puppy?
A breeder showed me a picture of the puppy and the parents. The parents have short hair and the puppy appears to be showing longer hair (mainly in the face). The sister of the puppy does appear to have shorter hair. Is this normal? I'm not a breeder, I just want a short haired JRT as a pet and want to make sure I am getting what I want.
Sure its possible.
We actually breed Jack Russell Terriers, and I've been involved in this breed for a very long time.
Just because the parents were short haired(smooth coated) doesn't meant one of the grandparents, or other relatives were.
We've had many litters. In which, we've had long haired(rough coats) And minor long haired(broken coats) dogs have litters. Theres a chance of having any coat type.
We've bred short haired Jrts together, and have gotten long haired ones.
Don't let anybody tell you it isn't possible. Because it is. I should know... I've seen them bred, raised, and whelped.
Hope that helps! Have a nice day!
